Gray Research AM 50 tube power amplifiers - matched pair in excellent condition<br>Up for auction is a very clean pair of these ultra rare 50 watt power amps with tube rectification. For those in the know, Gray Research is one of the most underrated manufacturers in the high fidelity world of the 1950s and 1960s. And here's the reason why Gray should be on your radar: Large potted transformers, heavy gauge chrome chassis and a clever circuitry reminding of Dynaco's MKII make this design stand out from the pack. Tube complement (per unit): 1 x GZ34, 2 x EL34/6CA7, 1 x 6AN8.<br>Input can be attenuated by potentiometer and output terminal provides taps for 4 ohm and 8 ohm speakers. Bias of the output tubes is adjustable from outside. The Gray AM 50 is a rare bird indeed: I've never come across another pair in years!<br>The 117v units for sale are in great condition. Chrome is well preserved, just a few scratches and most lettering is there too: not much to find fault with. Technically speaking, everything is in good working order. Both amps have been gone through and some critical parts replaced. In addition, a fresh set of NOS Philips ECG output tubes has been lavished on these beauties (6AN8 and GZ34 tubes are various brands, used but test good). Now the AM 50s are performing up to par and sound nothing short of gorgeous! They can easily compete with McIntosh and Marantz and look the part too. Quite impressive!<br>What are you waiting for?
