The Indian Campaign Medal or Indian Wars Medal as it is commonly called, was awarded for participation in a series of campaigns against the Indians by Army Personnel from 1865 to 1891.  The medal was authorized by Congress in 1905, however the first Indian Wars Medals were not awarded until 1907.<br>Original first issue medals were only issued to individuals still in the Army on active duty in 1907.  As the award was for service that had occurred many years prior to 1907 less then 2,000 original Indian Wars Medals (U.S. Mint number on the rim) were actually awarded.  Original Indian Wars Medals are rare and sell for between $1,000 and $2,000.
